I feel like most of the restaurants in Flordia have the same tourtisty food….just fish and bad french fries. We go to Siesta Key Flordia every year and this year when we got off the plane we were starving. We found this neighborhood with the magic of yelp + google maps. St. Petersberg Flordia is an up and coming area, although we didn’t have a lot of time to explore this area, we did come across two great things worth stopping for.
Bodega is this great cuban stand, and it looks like they are expanding to a juice bar next door. I can honestly say that nothing that we had was bad, and the guys that work there was very nice. We had the fresh made juices, beer, jiacma salad, lechon, pollo asado and the Cuban ( of course). I would say my favorite was the jicama salad and the pollo asado. The jicama salad was refreshing and I like that it was cut into large strips rather than shredded. I got the Lechon, but I had envy for the Pollo asado, I love coconut and this had coconut marinated chicken, mango mayo, avocado, and Fresno chili.
Furnish Me Vintage is the other great place on the strip, and is one of the best Mid Century Modern stores I have ever been to (great prices). Its 3 levels of teak, danish, mid century modern and industrial furniture. The husband and wife team open the shop 3 years ago (I think thats what she said). They do a fantastic job of filling the space with out over crowding it. They also have an online store, Jackie mentioned to give them a call for freight if you live in Dallas or Austin, because they can usually quote you a better price over the phone or email.
